I grew some balls and busted back into hip hop this week.
It had been since my college days since I got after this business like it was my job. And considering I used to lovingly sacrifice myself to the likes of public enemy and missy e in front of hoards of college basketball fans- this is a return to my art, ya’ll. My athletic calling, if you will. Some people run. Some swing bats. I shake my shit, and I DO IT WELL. Whhhy did it take me so long to get back into it?!! Truthfully, I remember having a 22-year-old moment years ago where I told myself that once I finished college, moved to the city, I would take up a more sophisticated dance form. Why waste dance proclivity on one discipline? So… I decided to put all my efforts into building from the ground up with the beautiful and exotic flamenco. Circa 2008, I started at a really great studio taking classes from a very experienced and very Spanish teacher. I learned a lot. It was hard work. But it wasn’t that much fun.
So here’s to trying new things (thank you flamenco), but sometimes….old loves are just better for you.
I dedicate this NIKE7UP track to my triumphant return to dirty hip hop. My new/old drug of choice.
